RRB ALP Recruitment 2026: 11,127 Assistant Loco Pilot Vacancies

Government of India, Ministry of Railways, Railway Recruitment Boards (RRBs) has released a detailed Centralised Employment Notice (CEN No. 01/2026) for the recruitment of Assistant Loco Pilot (ALP). Eligible candidates can submit their applications online only through the official regional RRB websites.

  • Last Date for Application Fee Payment: June 16, 2026 (23:59 Hrs)
  • Application Modification Window: June 17, 2026 to June 26, 2026 (23:59 Hrs)

Vacancy & Pay Scale Details

  • Post Name: Assistant Loco Pilot (ALP)
  • Total Vacancies: 11,127 posts across all RRBs
  • Pay Level: Level-2 in the 7th CPC
  • Initial Pay: Rs. 19,900/- per month plus admissible allowances

Eligibility Criteria

1. Age Limit (As on July 1, 2026)

  • General / EWS: 18 to 30 years
  • Candidates must be born between July 2, 1996 and July 1, 2008.

Upper Age Relaxation:

  • SC & ST Candidates: 5 Years
  • OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) Candidates: 3 Years
  • Ex-Servicemen (UR/EWS): 3 Years (after deduction of length of service)
  • Female Candidates (Widowed/Divorced/Judicially Separated & not remarried): 35 years (UR), 38 years (OBC-NCL), 40 years (SC/ST)

2. Educational & Technical Qualifications

Candidates must possess any one of the following qualifications from a recognized institution:

  • Matriculation / SSLC PLUS ITI (NCVT/SCVT) in trades like Fitter, Electrician, Instrument Mechanic, Millwright/Maintenance Mechanic, Mechanic (Radio & TV), Electronics Mechanic, Mechanic (Motor Vehicle), Wireman, Tractor Mechanic, Armature & Coil Winder, Mechanic (Diesel), Heat Engine, Turner, Machinist, Refrigeration & Air-Conditioning Mechanic.
  • OR Matriculation / SSLC PLUS Course Completed Act Apprenticeship (CCAA) in the trades mentioned above.
  • OR Matriculation / SSLC PLUS a 3-year Diploma in Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, or Automobile Engineering (or a combination of various streams of these disciplines).
  • OR a Degree in the Engineering disciplines listed above in lieu of a Diploma.

Note: Candidates awaiting their final results are not eligible to apply.

3. Medical Standards (A-1 Category)

The post requires very stringent medical standards. Candidates must be physically fit in all respects and fulfill the following visual requirements:

  • Distant Vision: 6/6, 6/6 without glasses with fogging test (must not accept +2D).
  • Near Vision: Sn. 0.6, 0.6 without glasses.
  • Other Tests: Must pass tests for Color Vision, Binocular Vision, Field of Vision, Night Vision, and Mesopic Vision.

Important: Candidates who have undergone LASIK or any other refractive eye surgery are NOT eligible to apply.


Selection & Recruitment Process

The selection process consists of five distinct stages:

  1. First Stage CBT (CBT-1): Screening test consisting of 75 objective questions to be completed in 60 minutes.
  2. Second Stage CBT (CBT-2): Consists of two parts: Part-A (100 questions, 90 mins, counted for merit) and Part-B (75 questions, 60 mins, qualifying trade test with a minimum 35% pass mark).
  3. Computer Based Aptitude Test (CBAT): Shortlisted candidates must score a minimum T-score of 42 in each test battery to qualify. No negative marking applies to this stage.
  4. Document Verification (DV): Shortlisted candidates based on 50:50 weightage from CBT-2 (Part-A) and CBAT scores will face document verification.
  5. Medical Examination (ME): Final fitness confirmation by Railway Medical Authorities.

Negative Marking: There will be a deduction of $\frac{1}{3}\text{rd}$ mark for every wrong answer in both CBT-1 and CBT-2.


Examination Fee

  • For All Candidates (except categories below): Rs. 500/- (An amount of Rs. 400/- will be refunded after deducting bank charges upon appearing in CBT-1).
  • For SC, ST, Ex-Servicemen, Female, Transgender, Minorities, or EBC candidates: Rs. 250/- (The full fee of Rs. 250/- will be refunded after deducting bank charges upon appearing in CBT-1).

How to Apply

  1. Visit any of the official regional RRB websites (e.g., www.rrbguwahati.gov.in or www.rrbsiliguri.gov.in).
  2. Click on the application link for CEN No. 01/2026.
  3. Fill out the ‘Create an Account’ form. If you have already created an account for RRB exams in 2024/2025, use your existing credentials to log in.
  4. Fill out the online application form and choice of zonal railways carefully.
  5. Complete the Live Photo Capture through a webcam or mobile front camera (ensure you wear dark or non-white clothing).
  6. Upload a scanned signature in running handwriting (black ink on white paper, 30 KB to 49 KB, JPG/JPEG format).
  7. SC/ST candidates wishing to avail the free travel pass must upload their valid caste certificate in PDF format (under 400 KB).
  8. Pay the examination fee via online modes (Internet Banking, Debit/Credit Card, or UPI) and take a printout of the final submitted application form.
